DFO/CCG Rivers to Oceans Day

On 11 JUNE 2009 the Coast Guard Base in Hay River hosted the DFO/CCG
Rivers to Oceans day which brought over 350 school children onto the
base to visit and participate in a number of inter-active displays put
on by DFO and CCG. The Hay River CCGA Unit was invited to participate
as our Vessels are moored on the Base. It was a huge success
particularly the inter-active displays such as catching fish, tracking
tagged (electronically)fish, Emergency Response oil clean up, Nav Aids,
and tours on the CCGS "Eckaloo & Dumit". The CCGA vessels were quite a
hit to the point we had to count the electronics everytime a tour went
through, the horns got quite a work out and a large container of "gummy
bears" from last year was miraculously fund under the coxswains seat and
instantly "inhaled"..

The big winner here was the students who saw first hand how agencies can
work together and produce an interesting experience.
