YELLOWKNIFE (July 5, 2012) - Twenty-five Northwest Territories residents from Deline, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River and Yellowknife are receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of their outstanding service to their communities and territory.
Medals have been or will be presented at community ceremonies by Commissioner George Tuccaro, Premier Robert (Bob) McLeod, Senator for the Northwest Territories Nick Sibbeston, Member of Parliament, Western Arctic Dennis Bevington and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
The Diamond Jubilee Medal recognizes the outstanding contributions that Canadians from every walk of life have made to their communities, their territory and their country, said Premier McLeod. I want to join with the Commissioner, Senator, MP, MLAs and Regional Aboriginal leaders in congratulating each of the recipients for dedicating their time to making our communities stronger and healthier.
The Diamond Jubilee Medal was created by the Government of Canada as part of year-long celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Premier, Commissioner, Member of Parliament for the Western Arctic and Senator for the Northwest Territories are partners with the federal government in the medal program.
Public nominations for Diamond Jubilee Medals to be presented later this year are being accepted until September 15, 2012. Visit

Staff Sergeant Retired RCMP Raymond John (Jack) Kruger, Hay River, NT
Staff Sergeant Retired RCMP Raymond John (Jack) Kruger has been a dedicated member of the RCMP for 47 years, providing exemplary services and commitment, both domestically and overseas. In his career he spent 38 years as a member of the RCMP and for the last 9 years as G Division Search and Rescue Coordinator, as well as 15 years spent as a volunteer Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary member. In 2003 Jack retired as a regular member of the RCMP, only to immediately assume the position as the G Division Search and Rescue coordinator, to which he brings his knowledge, wisdom and experience to the benefit of both the citizens of the North as well as RCMP members. In addition to his work experience, Jack has volunteered with the Canadian Coast Guard auxiliary in Iqaluit and Hay River, including training hundreds of individuals in both marine, land and search and rescue safety, from which one can recognize the importance of his work in terms of saving countless lives. Jack truly embodies the core values of the RCMP, and other public safety organizations, in that he works hard to ensure the security, happiness and freedom from distress of other people. These values of self-sacrifice, dedication, and community service are major themes of the Queens Diamond Jubilee, making Jack Kruger a very deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
