Similar to zones, regions subdivide the area of coverage being tracked in the SMS. Generally speaking zones subdivide the area of coverage via geographic means whereas regions subdivide the area via administrative boundaries. All units belong to both a region and a zone but there need not be any correlation between zones and regions so they may act as distinct divisions for both reporting and statistics.
