The ´Cert´ system is used for tracking training and competency certifications that may or may not have an expiration date. The system allows scanned copies of the documents to be included with the record in the database and provides a workflow to ensure that certs are properly recorded and signed-off at various levels within the organization.

The distinction between ´Certs´ and training ´Achievements´ is that certs require a formal sign-off and include documentation and the potential for an expiration whereas ´Achievements´ are only tracked within a person´s log. Thus if the item in question is a is a required component of the organizations training structure it should be recorded as a Cert whereas if it is merely supplementary or optional it should be recorded as an achievement.

Some training levels have associated certs that must be held by a person (not expired) in order for them to maintain that level. If a person´s required cert expires the system will notify them and, in most cases, their unit and the office.
