SAR Incident Detection Typs

1.description  Incident Detection Type Description
Indicates the method of detection used by the SRU to locate the unit assisted.

Select the most approperiate from the available choices.

Please avoid the use of ´other´ unless no other choice could possibly apply.

Air Support
When the detection was accomplished by an aircraft working with the vessel. ( i.e. Air Support - 442 Comox, Air Support - CASARA)

DF (406)
Direction finding on EPIRB´s 406 mhz frequency

DF (CB)
Direction finding on CB frequency

DF (HF)
Direction finding on HF frequencies

DF (VHF)
Direction finding on VHF frequencies

Infrared
Using infrared equipment to locate heat sources (from a vessel, aircraft, satellite)

Night Illumination Flares
Illumination flares dropped by aircraft in the search area

Night Vision Goggles
Night vision goggles or any other equipment increasing night vision.

None
When there is no detection, (nothing found)

Radar Detection
Vessel/object located by radar

Radar (SART)
When the object detected was equipped with a transponder

Radio Contact
When the detection was achieved following an exchange of information over the radio.

SARSAT/COSPAS
Detection via SARSAT/COSPAS using an ELT.

Search light
Night detection using the resource´s searchlight

Visual Contact (Daytime)
Self-explanatory

Visual Contact (Night time)
Self-explanatory

Other
Self explanatory - description may be added to identify the method used
