SAR Incident Action

Indicates the actions taken by the SRU in resolving (or attempting to resolve) the incident.

When a resource is involved in more than one action taken, indicate the one which is the prime action (normally the one which takes up most of the time). For example a resource spent 20 minutes locating a craft aground, 40 minutes re-floating it and 30 minutes towing it back. The main action for this case would be Re-floated.

Select the most approperiate from the available choices.

Please avoid the use of ´other´ unless no other choice could possibly apply.

Communication
When the assistance provided consisted solely in transmitting information to the unit assisted.

Escort
When the assistance is consisting of a resource escorting a unit to port or a sheltered area.

Evacuation
To be used in the case of medical evacuation or in the case of massive evacuation of persons isolated on a ship/vessel/other

Fire fighting
Case where the assistance provided consisted of putting out a fire.

First Aid
When the assistance required consists of giving first aid treatment without any need for evacuation. (i.e. injuries, minor burns)

Investigation
Investigation done to determine if there are people in danger aboard a drifting boat/object: (i.e. SAR vessel is tasked to investigate an overturned craft)

Monitoring
Incident only requiring surveillance. (i.e. Broken down vessel, not requesting assistance, trying to make its own repairs)

Self-explanatory

Recovery
Case where the assistance provided was the recovery on board of the object. (i.e. a sailboard or a corpse)

Re-floated
Vessel aground and re-floated with the assistance and help of the resource

Rescue
When the assistance provided was the successful recovery of a person ( i.e. man overboard or a swimmer)

Search
Search to locate a missing vessel, or a person. ( i.e. man overboard, reported overdue)

Tasking Cancelled
Only required as an entry when the resource is tasked but before it can depart the mission is cancelled. The tasking of a resource must be registered if the mission is cancelled and if there is a cost because of expenditure to the CGA or Coast Guard.

Technical Assistance
Assistance given allowing the vessel/boat to go on its way, stabilize its situation, make repairs (lend pump, supply fuel or battery, minor repairs, etc.)

Towed
Vessel disabled, requiring assistance from point A to point B

Transit only
When the tasked vessel does not have time to reach the scene of the incident before it´s completion or resolution.

Turn back (Weather/Breakdown)
When the tasked resource on mission is unable to get to the scene of thew incident due to bad weather, rough seas or major breakdown. (To be noted in critical factors) If the CGA resource suffered damage (i.e. deadhead strike, engine failure, etc) and was unable to get to the scene, this must be recorded under significant events.

Other
All other actions not previously covered
